The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)
This is my life.
I just reblogged something that reminded me this song/video exists, and I still cry like a little baby every time I watch it.
Seriously.
Me too, and only partly because my daughter is in it.
Waiting for the monkeyboy at swimming lessons and playing with Hipstamatic on my phone.
I was playing around with a camera app on the way home from work. James doesn’t like this picture of him, but I think it looks pretty good.
This sign was obviously made for a terrible, terrible parent. May he learn his lesson.
I remember when I was a kid, we’d spend a day at Disneyland or something and then we’d need to take a break or a nap or watch TV because the grown ups needed to sleep and it was super lame because I wanted to go swimming or something but they were too tired for that. Well, after spending the morning at a community party for the kickoff of the library’s summer reading program, I totally needed a nap and have been lying down in various quiet rooms of my house. I’m sure my kids are thinking the same thing I did when I was a kid and I’m kind of sad that now I’m the grown-up who needs to take a nap in the middle of a day full of fun.
One of the things we would do when I was growing up is when we’d watch a Gene Kelly movie, we’d take turns trying to do some of the dance moves and it was funny to watch a sibling or my mom hurt themselves doing something that Gene Kelly made look so easy.
Tonight, I’m watching It’s Always Fair Weather, which has a scene where Gene Kelly’s tap dancing in roller skates. I’m not going to try that because I’m pretty sure I’d end up really injured, but I’m imagining how funny it would be to watch my younger brother hurt himself trying to tap dance in roller skates. I’m a good older brother.
The monkeyboy wrote this story in school.
Little Willy: Wake up, Grandpa!
Grandpa: Okay!
Grandpa read the news.
Grandpa: I’m going to enter the Iditarod Sled Animal race for 1 dollar with a tortise! And It’ll be 1 year long so I can’t pay my taxes! Yay!
Grandpa couldn’t pay the taxes so the farm got taken away so Grandpa and Little Willy were homeless, but they bought a house and learned to never use a tortise again.
THE END
I made eclairs, filled with vanilla pudding. Today was full of beauty and love.
Chelsea’s been practicing making frosting flowers on cupcakes.
I took this picture while I was on the train home because I thought the clouds and the sunlight looked cool. And I was playing with some of the settings in my photo app, trying to find a combination I liked.
The munchkin explains her fantastic body art that she’s been working on for a couple of days.
This year, we’re launching a new project where we share new things that we’ve created in our studio. Some of them will be textual, some will be illustrations, and others will be performance pieces. We’re multidisciplinary that way. This is where you’ll see the new works show up and you can comment on them, share them or just enjoy the beauty or a moment of contemplation.
Welcome on this journey.
